Out-of-Band Management - OOBM
Out-of-Band Management
When a primary network becomes unreachable or devices fail, Out-of-Band Management provides remote access, provisioning, monitoring and control of IT infrastructure over a secondary and secure connection utilizing satellite, cellular, Ethernet or dial-up connectivity.
How do I remotely manage routers, switches and firewalls using OOBM?
- Access – SSH to infrastructure over LTE, Ethernet or dial-up during ISP or device failures.
- Provisioning – Setup configs through management ports, ZTP and automation.
- Monitoring – Log and be notified when connectivity, power, environmental, security or configuration status changes.
- Troubleshooting – Resilient remediation & automation. Syslog and local audit logging.
- Control – Power On/Off/Reboot and configuring management ports.

What hardware or software do I need for OOBM?
True out-of-band management utilizes secondary connections to access network infrastructure during failures. Whether it’s satellite, cellular, Ethernet or dial-up, when the primary connection is unavailable, a combination of hardware and software is required to provide secure out-of-band connectivity. WTI out-of-band management solutions include console servers, console server + PDU combos and edge management switches with a variety of connectivity options. All WTI OOBM devices can be controlled via web and CLI or by using centralized management software from Cisco and other vendors. WTI OOBM devices can also be centrally managed by our WMU software.
